It’s been a year in the making, and Atherton Bikes is now ready to start building the first fifty custom carbon mountain bikes for their early adopters. Starting with 3D printed, additive manufacturing titanium lugs bonding together carbon tubing, Atherton offers custom fit around a DW6 link suspension design for their first Enduro and DH bikes.

The result of an intense year that saw 20 prototypes developed and tested from World Cup downhill track to their own family-built bike park by Rachel, Dan & Gee Atherton, the time is here for the first fifty Atherton Bikes.
The first run will be limited to 200mm DH and 150mm Enduro race bikes, both custom fit to the individual rider with a Dave Weagle suspension design, made in the UK together with 3D manufacturing partners Renishaw Engineering.
We’ve caught up with Rachel, Dan and Gee a few times over the past year to chat about the brand and to get a look at their development prototypes. Gee has talked up the freedom of developing the bikes they want to ride & race and the flexibility of the 3D printed lug concept, “2019 was an amazing year for us, with the new bikes moving from a CAD design to three World Cup wins in a matter of months.”
Since the reveal of their bike project last winter, the Athertons have been inundated with demand for the bikes. But they’ve been cautious, waiting until they were totally ready with bikes that could stand up to the kind of abuse elite riders like themselves (actually, each a MTB World Champion) can dish out. But really, they’ve just invested a lot of effort & passion into the Atherton Bikes brand, and want to build bikes they can stand behind 100%.
Atherton Bikes – Pricing & availability
The first bikes on offer will both be 29ers. The 150mm Enduro frame will be available on its own starting at £3400 (or £2883 excluding VAT, or about $3750) or in complete builds from £5500 (£4543 excl. VAT or ~$5900).
The World Cup-proven DH race bike will be available only in complete builds, starting at £6000 (£5000 excl. VAT or ~$6500).
The #FirstFifty limited edition frames will keep the raw carbon finish on the tubes with black painted ti lugs, just like their prototypes. And each will feature its individual limited edition number 3D printed into the frame. Priority for the first 50 frames will be given to people who subscribe to the Atherton Bikes newsletter, so do that if you haven’t already in order to try to grab a place in line. Beyond this limited initial run, a full model launch is anticipated later this Spring. And we’ve heard rumors that 27.5″ wheels will be in store for some more playful bike options, and a shorter travel trail bike is in development, too…
